Zoo names newborn baby penguin after David Bowie
CINCINNATI - Two days before legendary musician David Bowie passed away, the Cincinnati Zoo honored him by naming their first animal birth of the year after him.
The zoo said a blue penguin chick weighing less than two ounces named Bowie was born at 6 a.m. Friday, the same day as Bowie's birthday.
The zoo was debating whether to name the penguin after Bowie or Elvis Presley, whose birthday is also on the same day as Bowie. The zoo decided on Bowie because it already has a king penguin named Elvis.
Bowie had just turned 69 years old and released a new album, "Blackstar," on Jan. 8 before losing his battle against cancer on Sunday.
