Virginia Tech announces plan to build innovation campus in Alexandria near Amazon's HQ2
ALEXANDRIA, Va. (FOX 5 DC) - Virginia Tech has announced plans to build its Innovation Campus in Alexandria. The campus will be part of a mixed used development in National Landing and will be near the future Potomac Yard Metrorail Station, the university says.
The university says the campus will sit on 15 acres south of Four Mile Run stream that separates Alexandria and Arlington and will be close to Amazon's HQ2 site. It will be part of a 65-acre mixed-use development.
Virginia Tech announced plans to build the Innovation Campus in Alexandria last November as part of the package to attract Amazon to build its HQ2 in Northern Virginia.
While many are excited about the changes coming others in the area are uneasy about Amazon's arrival and the impact on neighborhoods. Virginians Organized for Interfaith Community Engagement, or VOICE, recently held a meeting calling on their elected leaders to put the community first when making deals with Amazon.
