19-year-old woman killed, suspect charged following shooting in Frederick

Authorities say a suspect has been arrested after a shooting Thursday morning in Frederick left one person dead. 

The shooting happened at approximately 11:51 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 23 in the 100 Block of Willowdale Drive.

When officers arrived at the scene, they found where the shots had come from and saw an individual exiting an apartment via a balcony. They apprehended the individual without incident and brought them in for questioning.

Inside the apartment, officers discovered a female victim suffering from a single gunshot wound. She was taken to Frederick Health Hospital where she was pronounced dead. 

She has been identified as Kagina Marie Brown, 19, of Pennsylvania.

Following an investigation, detectives charged Kevin Eugene Mack, 42, with first-degree murder. The exact circumstances of the shooting have not been released.

"I'd like to acknowledge the outstanding work of our responding officers, who quickly identified and apprehended the suspect, likely preventing additional violence within our community," Frederick Police Chief Jason Lando said. "On behalf of our entire team, I would also like to extend our deepest condolences to the family and friends of our victim."  

The investigation is ongoing. No further details are available at this time.
