NWS: Confirmed tornado touched down in Reston in midst of severe storms

Severe storms left a trail of damage throughout the DC region Friday evening, downing trees in the Reston area and causing some flooding.

At around 10:20 p.m, the National Weather Service confirmed that a tornado touched down in Reston Friday night, FOX 5's Caitlin Roth reports.

The first wave of severe weather arrived in the early afternoon, bringing heavy downpours throughout the area. An additional round of severe weather happened between 8 p.m. and 10 p.m., featuring tornado warnings and watches, which have since been canceled.

Saturday is looking better with early showers possible and afternoon sunshine expected with temperatures in the 70s. Sunday is expected to be cloudy with scattered showers.
