DC breaks record for warmest Christmas Eve

Is it winter or spring? Even though the calendar says it is late December, it will feel more like April when you step outside the door.

The National Weather Service reports temperatures reached 71 degrees at the three D.C. area airports Thursday afternoon.

The previous record for Reagan National Airport, set in 1933, was 69 degrees. That record was tied around 10 a.m. Thursday and broken in the 12 p.m. hour.

Records were also broken at Baltimore-Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport and Dulles International Airport. The previous record at BWI was 65 degrees set in 1982 and 1990. The previous record at Dulles was 66 degrees in 1982.

The warmth continues for the next several days. It will be 70 degrees on Christmas Day.
