David DePape, the man convicted of hitting Paul Pelosi with a hammer, spoke out in a San Francisco federal court Tuesday morning saying he never meant to hurt the husband of the former speaker of the house.

A federal judge on Friday sentenced David DePape, the man convicted of breaking into former U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's San Francisco and attacking her husband, Paul, with a hammer, to 30 years in prison. 

A federal court jury on Thursday convicted the man who broke into the San Francisco home of Nancy Pelosi and attacked her husband with a hammer on charges of attempted kidnapping and assault.

Jury deliberations began Wednesday in the trial of the man accused of bludgeoning former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s husband with a hammer when he broke into the couple's San Francisco home last year.

David DePape testified, tearfully at times, in his own defense on Tuesday about attacking Nancy Pelosi's husband in the couples' San Francisco home.

Paul Pelosi has returned home after being hospitalized due to serious injuries allegedly inflicted by a home intruder, his wife Nancy Pelosi said Thursday.

The United States Capitol Police was not monitoring security cameras at Paul and Nancy Pelosi's house when an intruder attacked Paul with a hammer on October 28, the department admitted Wednesday. 

Police said David DePape confronted Paul Pelosi in the family's home early Friday and demanded to know, “Where is Nancy?”

The alleged home intruder who attacked 82-year-old Paul Pelosi early Friday holds anti-government conspiracy theories, according to sources.

China had warned of “resolute and strong measures” if Pelosi went ahead with the trip to Taiwan. She is the highest-ranking American official to visit the self-ruled island claimed by China in 25 years.

Local media in Taiwan say Pelosi is expected to arrive Tuesday night, becoming the highest-ranking elected U.S. official to visit in more than 25 years.

Pelosi said in a statement she is leading a congressional delegation to Singapore, Malaysia, South Korea and Japan to discuss trade, the COVID-19 pandemic, climate change, security and “democratic governance.”

Paul Pelosi, husband of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, was formally charged with two misdemeanor counts of driving under the influence causing injury. 

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced she will seek reelection in this year's midterms.
