DC High School Football Championship Preview

Until recently, the only high school athletics league in D.C. was the DCIAA, the D.C. Public Schools league. But with rising charter school enrollment and the private schools, former Mayor Vincent Gray, four years ago, created the D.C. State Athletic Association (DCSAA) to oversee high school athletics in the District.

Since its inception, the DCSAA has grown in size and stature and now nearly all schools in the city are state association members and vie for state championships. The DCSAA holds state tournaments in 16 sports.

The DCSAA tournament game for football takes place Saturday, December 5th, H.D. Woodson vs. Gonzaga.

About H.D. Woodson: H.D. Woodson is 8-4 and two weeks won its third consecutive DCIAA public school championship with a 40-24 victory over Wilson in the Turkey Bowl. Sophomore quarterback Khalil Wright threw five touchdown passes in the first half of that game. Wright has two outstanding wide receivers to throw to in Maryland recruit Parnell Motley and junior Charles Peeler.

About Gonzaga: Gonzaga is 10-2 and finished first in the powerful WCAC league before being upset in the league playoffs. The Eagles' best player is running back Tyree Randolph, who is just 5 feet 5 and weighs 150 pounds, but has rushed for more than 1400 yards this season and played well in big games.
