Mansion Murders: Prosecutors expected to call first witness, Savopoulos assistant Jordan Wallace

WASHINGTON - Prosecutors are expected to call their first witnesses to the stand in the second day of the mansion murders trial.

On Tuesday, attorneys for suspect Daron Wint, accused of murdering three members of the Savopoulos family and their housekeeper in 2015 said it was not Daron, but alleged it was Wint's brothers who were behind the crime.

Savvas Savopoulos, his wife Amy, their son Philip and the family's housekeeper, Vera Figueroa, were found beaten, strangled and stabbed to death inside the family's Northwest D.C. mansion in May 2015.

Daron Wint was indicted in February 2016 on 20 counts of kidnapping, arson, burglary, and first-degree murder.

Jordan Wallace, who was a Savopoulos family assistant, has been named by both the defense and prosecution and is due to be the first witness called up to testify on Wednesday. Officials said Wallace delivered the $40,000 ransom to the house and suggested he was involved in the murders as well.

Meanwhile, public defender Jeffrey Stein dropped a bombshell in the jury's lap on Tuesday, saying it was Daron Wint's brothers, Darrell and Stefon Wint, who planned out and carried out the horrific crime. He alleges Darrell and Stefon Wint tricked their brother Daron Wint into getting involved.

Investigators reportedly found Daron Wint's DNA on a pizza crust inside the house. Daron Wint was arrested with a large sum of money and reportedly had a past connection to the Savopoulos family, officials have previously noted.

In addition to the pizza crust, Daron Wint's DNA was also found on a knife used to prop open a window, according to officials.

Defense attorney Stein says Daron Wint ate the pizza and said his client was forced to put on the green construction vest that had traces of his DNA on it, but claims Daron never went up upstairs in that house, never knew what savage things were going on in those bedrooms.

Prosecutor Christopher Bruckmann was somber and blunt, coming close to the defendant, pointing and calling him a coward who got his ransom money, then fled, doused the victims with gasoline and set the house on fire.

Bruckmann told the jury "this is what nightmares are made of." He went on, describing in detail how the victims were kidnapped, tortured, stabbed and killed. Bruckmann said powerful DNA evidence would speak for the dead.

Jordan Wallace will be a witness for the prosecution on Wednesday. Prosecutors say Wallace was told by Savvas Savopoulos to retrieve and deliver the ransom money.

Prosecutor Bruckmann said Wallace will admit he was stupid for taking pictures of the $40,000 in cash and texting it to his girlfriend, then deleting it.

Wallace worked for Savvas Savopoulos as an assistant and driver. He and Savvas Savopoulos loved cars and was coaching 10-year-old Philip in go-cart racing.

However, the defense is suggesting Jordan Wallace is the only one who had inside knowledge of the mansion on Woodland Drive and says he may have coordinated with Darrell and Stefon Wint.
