Woman found dead on Ocean City beach died from accidental suffocation, officials say
OCEAN CITY, Md. - Officials say a woman found dead in a hole covered with sand on the beach in Ocean City, Maryland accidentally suffocated.
30-year-old Ashley O'Connor, of Plano, Texas, was found early last Monday morning on a portion of the beach near 2nd Street.
Investigators believe O'Connor walked alone onto the beach sometime around 2 a.m. that morning. It is unclear if she fell into the hole accidentally or if she climbed into it on her own accord.
That portion of the beach was closed for much of the day as emergency crews worked to remove her body. The beach reopened later that evening.
