NEW THIS MORNING: Metrobus operating under severe snow plan Monday

Will Metro trains be running Monday?

If you have to venture out during a snow storm in the D.C. area, Metrorail can operate very close to a normal schedule in snowfall of up to six inches, according to WMATA. WMATA says there may be increased crowds as people avoid driving, and there may be longer wait times between trains.

But with a forecast of up to ten inches for Monday, it Metro trains could be even further affected. Over eight inches of snow, Metro may suspend above ground trains and only serve underground stations.

Will Metro buses be running Monday?

Depending on how much snow accumulates in the D.C. area, Metro buses may be reduced, or limited to snow emergency routes. If snow accumulates to "unsafe levels," WMATA says Metrobus will halt all bus service until it is safe to resume.

Metrobus is operating under a Severe Snow Plan on Monday as heavy snow falls across the region. The plan affects 42 of the 193 bus routes, with the possibility of further service adjustments based on changing road conditions, the transit agency says.

Before you plan to use Metro services Sunday night and Monday, check what's running online on WMATA's Status and Alerts page
