"Mexico has to stop allowing millions of people to pour into our country. They can stop them. We're going to put very serious tariffs on Mexico…and Canada."
"Because Canada, they come through Canada too. And the drugs that are coming through are at record numbers. So, we're going to make up for that by putting tariffs on Mexico and Canada," he said.
Data center investment
Trump said an Emirati company led by billionaire Hussain Sajwani, a close business partner of the Trump family, was investing $20 billion in data centers in the United States.
The investment feeds into an existing increase in the construction of data centers used in the development of AI, an increasing digital economy, and an expansion of cryptocurrency.
Inauguration Day plans
The nation and D.C. officials continue to prepare for Inauguration Day. There are heightened precautions surrounding Trump's victory rally at Capital One Arena and a number of high-profile events.
Security measures already include steel fences, roadblocks, and an increased police presence around key venues. Officials anticipate further road closures, particularly near Capital One Arena, where vehicle restrictions are typically enforced during major events.
With thousands of visitors expected in D.C. over the next month, officials are determined to ensure the capital remains secure amid a challenging and fast-evolving security landscape.
