Husband pushes for speedy trial as search for missing Manassas Park woman continues

Naresh Bhatt appeared before a judge on Thursday, waiving his right to a grand jury trial, and requesting a speedy trial. FOX 5's Nana-Sentuo Bonsu has the latest details.

Mamta's husband, Naresh Bhatt, is currently in jail on charges of concealing her body, though no murder charges have been filed. FOX 5 obtained court documents showing photo evidence from the couple's home, including bloodstains.

Bhatt appeared before a judge on Thursday, waiving his right to a grand jury trial, and requesting a speedy trial.

Prosecutors are working to gather more evidence, including phone records, while Bhatt’s defense pushes for a swift trial.

Crime scene investigators have shared images from the couple’s home, showing bloodstains in various areas, including the bedroom and bathroom.

Last week, Bhatt waived his right to a preliminary hearing as well, a move prosecutors call "tactically done."

Kafle’s former co-worker, Holly Wirth, echoed this sentiment, describing Bhatt’s legal maneuvers as "tactical" and "legal gymnastics."

As the case develops, police continue to search for evidence that could lead them to Kafle’s body, while the community waits for the legal battle to unfold in court.

Manassas Park Police previously shut down Signal Hill Park on Friday night to conduct an extensive search for Mamta's body.
