A motel was badly damaged after a road rage incident that started in Alexandria and ended in Fairfax County.

Around 10 a.m. Thursday, police say a man started driving aggressively, trying to get past two other cars on Route 1. But as they got over the line separating Alexandria and Fairfax County, the aggressive driver started a devastating chain reaction accident, police said.

Authorities say a Dodge was hit by the aggressive driver in the Toyota, sending the Dodge out of control, slamming into an empty Honda that was parked. The force of the impact sent the Honda crashing through the Budget Host Travelers Motel. The Dodge came to a stop in the parking lot, but the aggressive driver hit another motel room wall, police said.

Fairfax County police have charged 50-year-old Elmer King with aggressive driving. He was not taken into custody. Police cannot say how fast the cars were traveling, but they say their accident reconstruction team will put together a full report.

No one was hurt, but there was massive destruction to the motel, which is a family-owned business. There are concerns about the building's structural integrity, and some rooms cannot be occupied.
