Police on the lookout for suspect in four-vehicle crash on I-495

Police say there are significant delays on I-495 and New Hampshire Avenue Friday afternoon after a four-vehicle crash, with reports of one suspect firing shots before fleeing the scene. 

After a four-vehicle crash on I-495 and New Hampshire Avenue around 1:30 p.m., police say one suspect walked away from the scene.

Maryland State Police attempted to make contact with the suspect after he was spotted in the area of Riggs Road but he hopped a fence and fled into a nearby neighborhood in Adelphi.

Police are actively searching for the suspect, described as an African American male with an afro, wearing a white T-shirt. Police say he may be armed. 

Traffic in the area was backed up due to the collision causing significant delays, and drivers were advised to find alternate routes.
