THC-laced candies seized from Maryland county fair booth
FREDERICK, Md. (AP) -- Operators of a Maryland county fair are shutting down a vendor suspected of selling candies laced with THC, the active ingredient in marijuana.
Great Frederick Fair Executive Assistant Karen Crum says directors voted to remove the booth Wednesday, a day after sheriff's deputies seized lollipops, gummies and other sweets that field-tested positive for the drug.
Sgt. Jason Deater of the Frederick County Sheriff's Office says investigators are awaiting confirmation from a Maryland State Police lab before deciding whether to charge the vendor.
Deater says deputies had received citizen complaints about sales of drug-laced candies. He says the sweets were in a glass case inside a tent offering henna tattoos, t-shirts and sweatshirts.
Deater is asking anyone with information about purchases of the candies to contact the sheriff's office.
