Swapping just one soda a day for water can improve health
LOS ANGELES, CA - Can't quit drinking soda? You aren't alone. Even though we know sugary drinks can increase the risk of weight gain and obesity, as well as Type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease, some of us still think "yes, but is life worth living without the sweet stuff?"
What about replacing just one sugary beverage with water? A new study from Virginia Tech, published in the journal Nutrients, found that subbing H20 for one sugary drink every day can reduce body weight and improve overall health.
Just one a day? We can do that. And the researchers say little changes like this add up. People who drink more water tend to have healthier diets overall.
The initial study was funded by the Drinking Water Research Foundation, an independent not-for-profit organization that supports research in areas related to consumers and drinking water- so of course they're going to be "pro-water". But so are nutritionists and your doctor, and with the soft drink industry making record sales with bottle water, everybody's on board with the news. Drink up!
