President-elect Trump plans 'victory rally' at Capital One Arena
WASHINGTON, D.C. - President-elect Donald Trump is set to hold a "Make America Great Again Victory Rally at Capital One Arena," on Sunday, January 19, according to a sign-up page on his inaugural website.
The "victory rally" is scheduled for the day before Monday, January 20, Inauguration Day, which is also Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Occasionally, Martin Luther King Jr. Day falls on Inauguration Day. However, the two dates are not directly related.
Inauguration Day security
In the wake of the New Orleans attack, officials say they now have a new ‘footprint’ to consider as part of the security planning that’s already underway, just 18 days from Inauguration Day.
The District will see a massive security force and steel fencing around the Capitol following the insurrection riot of 2021.
D.C.’s police chief says the District is ready.
"The Metropolitan Police Department extends our deepest condolences to the families, friends, and community members affected by the tragic events in New Orleans. We are actively working with our local, state, and federal law enforcement partners to share intelligence and provide support for the ongoing investigation," the department said in a statement.
D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser and President-elect Donald Trump recently met to discuss collaborative ways to improve the nation’s capital during Trump’s second term.
"I am optimistic that we will continue to find common ground with the President during his second term, and we look forward to supporting a successful inauguration on January 20," she said.
Bernie Sanders praises Trump campaign proposal
According to FOX News, Senator Bernie Sanders recently praised Trump's proposal for a 10% cap on credit card interest rates.
"During the recent campaign, Donald Trump proposed a 10% cap on credit card interest rates. Great idea. Let’s see if he supports the legislation that I will introduce to do just that," Sanders wrote on X.
Trump has shared a number of his plans and Day One Agenda, from slashing the number of federal workers to "vigorously pursuing" capital punishment.
