1 dead, 5-year-old suffering gunshot injuries at Potomac High School shooting

Prince George's County officials provide more details on a shooting in Oxon hill that left one man dead and a child injured.

A shooting at Potomac High School in Oxon Hill, Maryland has left one adult dead and a child suffering injuries. 

Police are actively investigating a shooting in the area of 5211 Boydell Ave, Oxon Hill 20745 on Saturday, June 15 around 11:14 a.m. According to Prince George's County police, the shooting was at a youth football game. 

Officers located an adult male in the bleachers suffering from gunshot wounds. The victim was transported to the hospital where he was pronounced dead. A second victim, a five-year-old child, was also located suffering from a gunshot wound. Officers say the child was driven to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Chief of Police for the Prince George's County Police Department, Malik Aziz shared new details on the incident during an afternoon press conference. 

Aziz stated that it is believed that two individuals that appeared to know each other got into a verbal altercation in the bleachers of the game and things escalated into a shooting. The suspect then shot the deceased victim and a five-year-old child.

"We need to get these guns off the street," said Angela Alsobrooks, Executive of Prince George's County.

Police continue to search for the suspect who fled the scene after the shooting.
