Police identify 22-year-old shot dead in Montgomery Village

MONTGOMERY VILLAGE, Md. - The death of a 22-year-old man whose body was found in a wooded area is now being investigated as a homicide, Montgomery County police said.

On Tuesday, authorities identified the victim as Roberto Gutierrez Cruz of the 18400 block of Lost Knife Road in Montgomery Village. According to the medical examiner, he died from a gunshot wound.

Detectives believe the victim was killed at some point in the 48 hours before a passerby found his body early Monday afternoon. The discovery was made in the 18200 block of Contour Road between a neighborhood of townhomes and South Lake Elementary School.
