Outpouring of support at fundraiser to help injured firefighter
WASHINGTON - An outpouring of support has begun for a D.C. firefighter injured on the job.
People lined up early for the gathering at the Tune Inn Restaurant & Bar in Southeast, D.C. for a breakfast fundraiser for firefighter Dane Smothers, Jr.
28-year- old Smothers Jr. was injured last Wednesday after his engine responded to the two-alarm blaze at a home in the 800 block of F Street in the Northeast.
The probationary firefighter had just gotten off of his truck and was helping to get the hoses set up when he was struck by an arriving ladder truck.
He remains in critical condition.
