Bowie police officer allegedly shoots at stranded car on highway

Questions are swirling after a Bowie police officer opened fire on a car Thursday morning. FOX 5's Shomari Stone has the story.

Questions remain after a Bowie police officer opened fire on a car Thursday morning, with no charges filed so far.

The incident occurred around 8 a.m. on Collington Road near John Hanson Highway.

According to officials, the Bowie police officer had pulled over to assist what appeared to be a stranded driver. However, as the officer approached the car, they fired their gun for reasons still unknown. 

No one was injured in the shooting, but a passing car was struck by the gunfire.

"I don't want to go into detail, as all of those matters are part of the investigation. What I want our community to understand is that we're committed to doing an objective and thorough investigation of this matter," said Bowie Police Chief Dwayne A. Preston.
