Nevada politician draws praise, criticism for gun-themed Christmas photo

A Nevada politician is receiving praise, and backlash, after posting a gun-themed digital Christmas card.

Michele Fiore, a Republican member of the Nevada Assembly, posted the photo to her Facebook on Dec. 1 with the caption "It's up to Americans to protect America. We're just your ordinary American family. With love & liberty, Michele."

The family dons red sweaters and jeans, as many families do in holiday photos, but what makes the seasonal card unique is not the outfits, but what the individuals in it are holding.

Seven of the ten people are holding guns.

A caption in the upper left of the photo lists the weapons' exact models from left to right and, although none of the infants in the picture are armed, a young boy standing in front of Michele is.

At the time of publication the photo had been shared over 3,000 times and liked by over 2,000 people. Many comments praised Michele, with one user calling her "the epitome of what this nation is about," and other saying they were "proud of this family" for taking "personal responsibility for their families [sic] safety."

But the photo is not without criticism.

It was called "nightmarish" by one user, and "sick" by another. Others suggested that Michele's card was not in the "true spirit of Christmas."

This is not Fiore's first time posing with guns-- in November she released a calendar called "Michele Fiore's 2016 Walk the Talk 2nd Amendment Calendar."

It featured quotes from famous Republicans like Abraham Lincoln and Ted Nugent as well as photos of her with guns.
