Nation’s first gas-to-electric station opens in Montgomery County

The nation’s first fully converted gas-to-electric fueling station opened Thursday in Takoma Park at RS Automotive on Carroll Avenue.

The station is among more than 600 charging stations in Maryland.

“Maryland is proud to be a national leader when it comes to clean and renewable energy, climate change, and the promotion of electric infrastructure and vehicles,” said Governor Larry Hogan.

A lawsuit settlement with Volkswagen financed the project.

The automaker was caught cheating on emissions tests and settled by paying for chargers and electric school buses in a number of communities in Maryland and beyond.
