Mayor Bowser greets students on DC field trip from Ohio
WASHINGTON (AP) -- Washington's mayor is greeting middle school students from Ohio who chose to travel to the nation's capital despite threats in the wake of the Paris attacks.
District of Columbia Mayor Muriel Bowser will greet roughly 250 eighth-graders from Claggett Middle School in Medina, Ohio, in Lafayette Square near the White House on Thursday afternoon.
The Islamic State group has claimed responsibility for last week's Paris attacks, in which 129 people were killed at cafes, a rock concert and the national stadium. On Monday, the group released a video showing one of its fighters in Iraq vowing to attack Washington. However, authorities have stressed they have no credible information about specific threats against the nation's capital.
The Medina superintendent told The Medina-Gazette that he decided not to cancel the field trip.
