Marion Barry memorial plans include city hall statue or bust

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Marion Barry would get a statue or bust in front of the District of Columbia's city hall under new plans unveiled by Mayor Muriel Bowser's office.

Barry died last November. He served four terms as mayor and another 16 years on the D.C. Council.

Bowser established a commission to come up with ways to honor Barry. The commission's recommendations were announced Monday. They include commissioning a bust or statue outside the John A. Wilson Building.

The commission also recommended renaming Good Hope Road and Ballou High School after Barry and naming a new student center at the University of the District of Columbia after him.
