Marble Replica of Michelangelo's Pieta to be displayed during World Meeting of Families

A life-size marble version of Michelangelo's Pieta will be on display at the Pennsylvania Convention Center during the World Meeting of Families.

The famous sculpture depicts the body of Jesus on the lap of his mother, Mary after the crucifixion. The Pieta is the only sculpture that Michelangelo ever signed.

The Vatican Observatory Foundation authorized and licensed the creation of 100 Pieta marble castings, which are derived from the original statue. One of the 100 marble castings will be displayed in Pennsylvania.

"We are so grateful to have World Meeting of Families- Philadelphia 2015 selected to host and display an exact replica of one of the greatest works of religious art ever created," said Donna Crilley Farrell, Executive Director of the World Meeting of Families. "To be able to share this truly moving exhibit with visitors coming to Philadelphia from around the world is an extraordinary opportunity."

The sculpture can be viewed from September 22 - 25 at the Pennsylvania Convention Center.
