Man, woman found dead in Spotsylvania County home were shot to death: Sheriff's Office

Two people found dead in a Spotsylvania County home were apparently shot to death, the Sheriff’s Office said Tuesday. 

The bodies of Charles Childress, 61, and Kimberly Newcomb, 59, were found inside their home Saturday morning. 

Detectives immediately began investigating the incident as a double homicide but had not revealed the cause of death of the victims. 

Shocking weekend murder

The backstory:

Deputies responded to the home where they were found in the 10800 block of Heatherwood Drive around 10:30 a.m. on Saturday after a concerned friend went to check on Childress. 

The individual walked inside the house and immediately found Newcomb’s body. The person immediately walked out of the home and called 911.

When deputies arrived, they began searching throughout the home and eventually came upon Childress’ body. 

Detectives with the Criminal Investigation Division responded to the scene, began their investigation, conducted interviews and collected evidence.

Investigation continues 

What we don't know:

Investigators still have not determined what the relationship between the two victims was but they were living in the house together. 

The homicide remains under investigation.
