Man with weapon arrested at Iranian interests section in DC, Secret Service says

WASHINGTON - The U.S. Secret Service says a man was arrested with a weapon at the Iranian interests section in the District on Wednesday.

The Secret Service told FOX 5 its officers responded to a report of shots fired at 1250 23rd St., NW in the West End, which is the location of Pakistan's embassy, which houses the Iranian interests section because Iran and the U.S. severed diplomatic relations in 1979.

Secret Service officers said they determined shots were not fired, but took a suspect into custody at the scene who they said was in possession of a weapon.

The suspect, whose identity has not been released, was charged with assault. The Secret Service said it was investigating the incident.

Iran's state-run IRNA news agency posted a brief video online that appears to show armed officers subduing a man facedown on the ground. The agency says the man shouted "slogans against the Islamic Republic of Iran," without elaborating.
