Luigi Mangione named suspect in UnitedHealthcare CEO murder
A Maryland man, Luigi Mangione, has been named a suspect in the UnitedHealthcare CEO murder.
COCKEYSVILLE, Md. - A Maryland man, Luigi Mangione, is now behind bars after being charged with the murder of UnitedHealthcare CEO, Brian Thompson.
Mangione, 26, grew up in Townson, Maryland but most recently lived in San Francisco, California and Honolulu, Hawaii.
He was arrested in Altoona, Pennsylvania, on Monday – about 300 miles from the crime scene.
FOX 5's Nana-Sentuo Bonsu spoke to neighbors who were shocked by the news, some describing Mangione as part of a well-known and respected family in Maryland.
"You know, I’m just shocked," said Chad Chilcot, a neighbor who lives steps away from several Mangione family members.
"The Mangione family is a lovely family. And they’ve been involved in the community quite a bit. Very well respected," he said.

Residents in a quiet Baltimore County community are grappling with the shocking news that a former neighbor, Luigi Mangione, has been named a person of interest in the fatal shooting of United Healthcare CEO Brian Thompson in New York City last week. FOX 5's Nana-Sentuo Bonsu spoke to Mangione's former neighbors in Cockeysville, Maryland.
His extended family owns golf courses, country clubs, and radio stations in Maryland.
As of late Monday evening, Manhattan prosecutors filed several charges, including murder, against Mangione, according to an online court docket.
This remains an ongoing investigation.
