Kefalas announces run for GOP nomination for Senate

(AP) -- Chrys Kefalas, who worked as an attorney in former Gov. Robert Ehrlich's administration, says he is running for the Republican nomination for U.S. Senate.

Kefalas made the announcement Tuesday.

Kefalas advised Ehrlich on clemency issues, which was a priority of the Republican governor during his tenure from 2003 to 2007.

Kefalas, 36, is from Parkville in Baltimore County. He has worked for the Justice Department and the National Association of Manufacturers since his job in the Ehrlich administration.

He will be running for the GOP nomination against state Sen. Kathy Szeliga and Richard Douglas, a former Defense Department appointee in the George W. Bush administration.

Democratic Sen. Barbara Mikulski announced earlier this year she is not seeking re-election in 2016.
