Government offering assistance to Virginians impacted by July flooding
FAIRFAX COUNTY, Va. - A record-breaking rainstorm hit Northern Virginia on July 8, 2018 - and Fox 5 was there as homes and businesses were deluged. The fast moving floodwaters washed away roads and left several drivers in panic mode - stranded in their cars until rescuers pulled them to safety from the rising tide.
The wall of water receded as quickly as it came - but the damage left behind has been long lasting.
Now, the federal government agrees that it was truly a disaster. Fairfax County, Arlington County, the City of Falls Church and the City of Alexandria have qualified for Economic Injury Disaster Loans through the U.S. Small Business Administration.
Two Disaster Loan Outreach Centers will open in Tysons Corner and Arlington for people affected by the floods to apply for low-interest loans in person.
There are three levels of loans available:
Small Businesses and Non Profits are eligible for up to $2 million at rates of 4% and 2.75% respectively.
Homeowners who had real estate property damage can apply for up to $200,000 at 1.938%. Homeowners and renters who had personal property damage can apply for up to $40,000 at 1.938 percent.
If you plan on applying in person, you'll need to move quickly. The Centers will be open for one week from Tuesday, Aug. 13 through Monday, Aug. 19. Applications will also be processed online until October 7, 2019 via the SBA website.
