Montgomery County parents react to third consecutive snow day
Many school districts throughout the region made the decision to close Wednesday on account of the recent winter weather.
That includes Montgomery County Public Schools. Officials there made the call Tuesday afternoon shortly before 4 p.m.
"We just heard school was canceled for the third day. Yes," said MCPS mom Anneceline Maurice, before adding, "we were a little bit flabbergasted and not knowing what to do."
In a statement, MCPS said that while progress is being made, "snow levels and persistently cold temperatures are impacting our ability to clear school sites, parking lots, and walkways of snow and ice."
School closures, delays for DC, Maryland, Virginia for Wednesday, January 8
The first major winter storm of 2025 brought up to 10 inches of snow to parts of the D.C., Maryland, and Virginia area, prompting school closures on Monday and Tuesday.
"I think they should keep the schools safe," said dad Chris Warshaw. "So, if they can’t open the school safely then I’m glad they’re not opening them, but I wish we could open the schools safely."
Added mom Elise Beretz, "safety first for sure, but maybe things could have been done faster."
Of course, while parent after parent sounded similarly early Tuesday evening, most students sounded more like 7-year-old Alexia.
"I love it," Alexia told FOX 5 of the third straight snow day. "I’m gonna throw snowballs at my sister."
