Fairfax County fire officials identify woman killed in McLean fire

Fairfax County fire officials have released the identity of a woman who was killed in a deadly blaze in McLean nearly two weeks ago.

They say 73-year-old Lucy Berkebile died in the fire that erupted in the home on Brookhaven Drive on Saturday, March 20.

Neighbors described Berkebile as a "sweet, elderly" woman.

Fire officials say crews needed to fight through thick brush to reach the home.

They also encountered what they described as "hoarding conditions" within the home, as well as heavy fire.

They had received reports that someone might be inside the structure, but were turned back by flames and smoke.

Investigators have not determined whether there were working alarms within the home.

They are still trying to find out what caused the fire.
