DC sees mostly rain from winter weather system that brought snow to areas north, west of metro area
WASHINGTON (FOX 5 DC) - D.C. was spared the worst of the winter weather system that moved across the region over the weekend dropping several inches of snow on parts of western Maryland and West Virginia. Areas around the District received mostly rain with just a trace amount of snow recorded at area airports.

The systems began on Sunday afternoon and left behind substantial snow totals in places like Frederick, Maryland where FOX 5 crews visited Monday morning. Several inches of snow could be seen on untreated surfaces and vehicle. Roadways were very wet and slick during the morning commute. Some school systems to the north and west were delayed or closed Monday morning.
As the region dries out we can expect below normal cold temperatures. Gusty winds return to the area on Monday and temperature remain below normal all week with highs only reaching into the 30s and 40s.
FOX 5's Caitlin Roth says she's keeping an eye on a weather system that could bring snow or rain Friday morning. We're also looking at a possible rainy weekend with the chance for showers on both Saturday and Sunday.
