Coweta County father arrested in infant's death

A Newnan father faces multiple charges after his 5-month-old son suffered what would prove to be fatal injuries in his care.

Chrisopher Hansen is charged with murder and child cruelty in the death of Saxton Livingston.

According to warrants filed in Coweta County, Saxton usually lived with his mother, Shay Livingston, in Alabama. Hansen picked the baby up June 16 and brought him to his home on Chestnut Drive in Newnan for Father's Day weekend.

Saxton "was a perfectly healthy happy baby when he left Anniston, Alabama with Chris," the warrant reads.

The next morning, investigators said Hansen called 911 to report the baby would not wake up and was having trouble breathing. An operator walked Hansen through life-saving measures until paramedics could arrive and rush Saxton to Piedmont Newnan Hospital.

The baby was later air-lifted to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta.

In an interview with investigators, Hansen claimed he had given Saxton a bottle around 6:00 a.m. and left the five-month-old for 10 to 15 minutes. He later said he found the baby "gagging or choking."

Law enforcement said Hansen provided "inconsistent statements" during the course of the investigation.

Medical tests revealed Saxton had marijuana in his system and suffered from multiple hemorrages, shock, and "hypoxic ischemic brain injury, all of which have been determined to be caused from an abusive head trauma."

Saxton died from his injuries on July 25.

The warrants did not specifically lay out a motive for the alleged crime, but did mention that the State of Alabama performed DNA testing to establish paternity "for the purpose of child support."

Hansen remains in the Coweta County Jail without bond.
