CMPD officer reunites with HS student with autism

A Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police officer went above and beyond when he reached out to Jeremiah, an autistic high school student, who had a history of violent behavior due to his neurodevelopment disorder.

Officer Tim Purdy was called out to a situation several weeks ago involving the teen who left his school's campus and may have been suicidal.

Officer Purdy and Jeremiah reunited earlier this week in the same parking lot where they first met last month.

Both the officer and Jeremiah had a good chat about family, sports and life during the reunion and plan to stay in touch.

In this photo from several weeks ago you see Officer Purdy sitting next to the teen talking through things with him.

Officer Purdy was able to get the help the boy needed.
