Boy's wish to become an officer amid cancer battle granted

WILMINGTON, Del. (WTXF) - Police in New Castle, Delaware have added a very special new member to their force, and he's a proven fighter.

Angel Zamora, age 5, is a Make-A-Wish recipient and Wilmington resident. He received his Wish to be a police officer for a day with the help of the New Castle County Police Department. There was a full police escort for Angel and his family both to and from the Wish location.

Angel and his family arrived at Carousel Park that morning and upon arrival, Angel received a custom-made police uniform and had a special swearing-in ceremony naming him as their newest Captain.

An inoperable brain tumor, hasn't stopped Angel's love of all things police, and dreams of being a police officer when he grows up. So, when Wish Granter volunteers asked Angel what his one true Wish was-he knew the answer right away and the magic of Make-A-Wish began to unfold.

Besides being sworn in as a New Captain of the NCPD, Angel will also be taking a special ride in a police car, ride on an official police horse and maybe even take a special ride in the state police helicopter. This day is all about Angel and making sure he has a smile on his face during each aspect of his special Wish.

Make-A-Wish grants the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with hope, strength and joy. Make-A-Wish Philadelphia, Northern Delaware and Susquehanna Valley has granted over 5600 Wishes since the Chapter's inception in 1986. The Chapter serves Philadelphia and the surrounding counties, the Susquehanna Valley and New Castle County in Delaware.
