Big Lots strikes deal save hundreds of stores from closing

Big Lots Inc. struck a deal to save hundred of stores from closing after filing for bankruptcy in September.

On Friday, the retailer had announced that it would have to liquidate all of its location after restructuring plans fell through. But a last-minute deal with Gordon Brothers Retail Partners LLC and Variety Wholesalers Inc. will save as many as 400 Big Lots locations from closing.

The stores will continue to operate under the Big Lots name and "may employ Big Lots associates at the acquired stores and distribution centers, as well as certain corporate associates needed to support the go-forward footprint." But it's not a guarantee that all Big Lots employees will be able to keep their jobs.
