Anne Arundel off-duty officer drove drunk, fought cops, police say
ANNE ARUNDEL COUNTY, Md. (FOX 5 DC) - An Anne Arundel County police officer was about to be arrested for drunk driving at the scene of a crash when he attacked responding officers, police said on Monday.
Saturday night around 8:30 p.m., Anne Arundel County police had responded to a two-vehicle crash near the intersection of Riedel and Johns Hopkins roads in Crofton when they encountered Sgt. Kenneth Collier.
They say Collier - a 21-year veteran of the force - was off duty and drunk behind the wheel when he rear-ended another vehicle.
When they tried to take him into custody, Collier allegedly attacked them.
Police charged Collier with assault on a law enforcement officer, second-degree assault, DWI, and resisting arrest.
He has been suspended without pay while police and the State's Attorney's office investigate the incident.
The occupants of the vehicle Collier rear-ended were not injured.
