Amazon Jobs Day: Amazon hiring thousands on Wednesday, August 2

Amazon is hiring thousands of people on the spot Wednesday morning as it hosts a giant job fair at warehouses across the country.

The company invited job-seekers to 10 shipping sites throughout the U.S. between 8 a.m. and noon local time.

Applicants will get to tour the facilities, chat with company representatives and be introduced to robots Amazon uses at its warehouse operations.

The sites hosting the job fair include Baltimore, Maryland; Hebron, Kentucky; Romeoville, Illinois; Whitestown, Indiana; Fall River, Massachusetts; Robbinsville, New Jersey; Buffalo, New York; Etna, Ohio; Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; Chattanooga, Tennessee; Kent, Washington; and Kenosha, Wisconsin.

Those offered on-the-spot employment would pack or sort boxes. Nearly 40,000 of the 50,000 jobs will be full-time work, according to Amazon.

The online retail giant said its jobs offer health insurance, disability insurance, retirement savings plans and company stock.

Pay differs based on location, but a full-time job in Baltimore has a starting rate of $13 an hour, according to job postings on Amazon's site.

Most of the jobs being offered will count toward Amazon's previously announced goal of adding 100,000 full-time workers by the middle of 2018.
