Alexandria Police arrest suspect in fatal shooting of 20-year-old woman
ALEXANDRIA, Va. (FOX 5 DC) - Alexandria Police say they have arrested a 32-year-old Maryland man, suspected of a killing a young Virginia woman on Friday.
Investigators say William Thomas Layton of Largo, Md. was arrested and charged Saturday for the death of 20-year-old Diamond Moore.
Police say Moore died after she was shot along Holmes Run Parkway. Moore's mother and her fiance say they were at work on Friday morning when Diamond had gone outside and was shot on the street.
Moore's family says the young woman was a college student at Davis and Elkins College in West Virginia, but has been home recuperating after being injured in a car accident about six months ago.
Layton faces charges of Murder, Possession of a Firearm by a Violent Felon, and Use of a Firearm in the Commission of a Felony.
He is currently being held without bond in the Alexandria Detention Center.
