Alexandria man gets hundreds of calls after teen pop star 'leaks' similar phone number on Instagram
ALEXANDRIA, Va. (FOX 5 DC) - Do you ever accidentally dial the wrong number? Like, maybe you’re one digit off? If so, you aren’t alone. In fact, an Alexandria man said in the past 24 hours he’s been contacted by hundreds of teens – who were actually trying to reach a teen pop star with a very similar phone number instead.
Here’s what happened: Back in April, Delante Clark started a new junk-hauling business, called Junk Daddy. He recently hired a PR company, hoping to drum up business, and for a second, he thought things had worked out even better than he’d hoped.
“I was hoping to get business,” Clark said Wednesday. “I mean I’d love to get leads and calls, but I wasn’t expecting those kinds of calls.”
The calls – and more than 200 texts – were intended for Reston native, singer, and teen heartthrob Jacob Sartorius, who told his Instagram followers that if one of his posts got 50,000 comments, he’d “leak” his number. Sure enough, the 50,000 comments rolled in and Sartorius followed through, posting his number – which just so happened to be one digit off from Clark’s.
“Anything from ‘I love you’ to, you know, ‘you’ve changed my life.’ ‘You’ve inspired me,’” Clark laughed, describing the texts.
He said he’d never heard of Sartorius before, but now, he’s hoping the connection might lead to some new business.
“I wish they were calling for Junk Daddy, but hey,” he said. “Any press is good press.”
Fox 5 DC called, texted, and tweeted at Sartorius, but has yet to hear back.
