Winter storm bringing wintry mix, minimal precipitation to DC area Monday

Another storm that will become a nor'easter is headed up the east coast toward the D.C. area, but it won't start to form until after rush hour Monday morning. Forecasts show Southern and Central Virginia may be getting the most snow, as the system moves north.

There is a winter storm warning for central western Virginia in Charlottesville and Roanoake. There is a winter weather advisory that includes Shenandoah and Page counties in Virginia and eastern West Virginia.

FOX 5 Meteorologist Gary McGrady says "the bullseye appears to be between Fredericksburg and Richmond, in there somewhere I think we'll get the most snow."

Come Monday, central and west Virginia may get 1 to 3 inches and southern Virginia could get 3 to 6 inches.

The Monday morning commute should stay mostly snow-free and dry. But by midday Monday there will be a mix of snow and some rain.

FOX 5's Gwen Tolbart says while temps will maintain above freezing, there should only be a trace to less than half an inch of accumulation, mostly on grassy surfaces.

As storm intensifies, it will race its way to the northeast and parts of New England will get slammed quite a bit.
