Severe storms leave behind damage; heat and humidity back Wednesday with more thunderstorms possible into the evening
Expect a decent amount of cloud cover through the morning hours with even a light shower or two possible prior to the noon hour. Between 12 p.m. and 4 p.m. we should mix in some sun. But the morning clouds should keep highs only in the low 90s compared to the middle 90s of the past three days. This should also limit both the coverage and the intensity of afternoon storms. There still will likely be a few, but, at this time, we’re not expecting them to be as strong as the ones on Tuesday night.
WASHINGTON - It was quite the atmospheric battle Tuesday afternoon as severe storms featuring hail and prolific lightning blew up quickly and pummeled the sizzling temperatures that were in the 90s down into the 70s.
Wednesday will be day five of our heat wave and it will be another humid day with temperatures back in the low 90s. The heat index – a gauge of how hot it feels outside based on the temperature and humidity – will make it feel like it is between 95 and 100 degrees.

Violent and strong storms strike DC region
Whipping winds, heavy rains and hail blew through the D.C. region Tuesday leaving behind destruction and debris. The powerful storm knocked down dozens of trees and kept crews busy overnight. FOX 5’s Ayesha Khan was in northwest, D.C. with a look at the storm damage.
Yes, we will likely see thunderstorms scattered around the Washington, D.C., Maryland and Virginia region again in the afternoon. But if clouds dominate it will limit both the coverage and the intensity of these storms.
Heat relief is coming in less than 48 hours! Highs near 86 degrees are expected on Friday and sunshine and temperatures in the 80s on Saturday and Sunday.
