WASHINGTON - As another nor'easter churns its way through the mid-Atlantic, it brought winter weather and flooding to the D.C. region Wednesday, which affected travel throughout the region.
While some parts of our area got some snow, especially areas north and east, it's nothing compared to what areas north are getting.
Some spots around Philadelphia and New York are getting up to a foot of snow or more as the system moves through.
Amtrak canceled dozens of trains along the northeast corridor as a result of the nor'easter, and flight cancellations were reported at all three D.C. airports.
Amtrak announced Tuesday that Northeast Regional and Acela Express services would be operating on a modified schedule on the Northeast Corridor between Washington, D.C., and Boston on Wednesday.
As of 5 p.m. Wednesday, FlightAware reported over 3,000 flights in all had been canceled for Wednesday, and the number will likely continue to grow.
Amtrak says there were 20-30 canceled trains due to the weather. At Union Station, dozens of travelers waited for their trains but came prepared.
"Hopefully my wife will be at the train station to get me. She's taken my four-wheel drive from the house. She's got her smaller car that doesn't handle too well in the snow. So I'm just hoping she gets there safe and that, she's there when I get is there. So I'm not stranded in Wilmington," says one traveler at Union.
"Despite all the news that we're having a huge snowstorm, I'm prepared for it, I can handle that," said another traveler.
TRAVEL INFO
If you have plans to travel Wednesday, you're advised to check with your airline or with Amtrak, if you're traveling by train, to make sure you make your train or your flight on time.
As heavier snow hits areas north, those headed up Interstate 95 Wednesday should use caution and expect delays.
FLOODING
As temps remain above freezing for the D.C. area, the precipitation came in as snow in spots, as well as sleet and rain. In Annapolis, about 2 inches of snow had fallen early Wednesday, while those in the District had only seen a trace to 1 inch.
Alexandria, Virginia saw some flooding in Old Town along King Street, but that has died down and is being monitored by crews.
In Maryland, Anne Arundel, Charles and Calvert Counties, as well as areas south and the Eastern Shore, and King George County in Virginia are under a coastal flood advisory through Wednesday night.
WHAT'S NEXT?
FOX 5's Tucker Barnes says there may be a possibility for another Nor'easter by the end of the weekend into early next week, bringing some rain and snow Sunday into Monday.
