History in the making? DC's top snowstorms of all time
WASHINGTON - The snowstorm that will hit the D.C. region Friday and Saturday could be historic, but what exactly does that mean? Maybe this will jog your memory.
The biggest snow we have ever had in D.C. was the Knickerbocker Storm in January 1922, dropping more than 2 feet of snow.
Longtime residents will remember the February 1979 storm that brought 18.7 inches of snow.
"A lot of meteorologists in this area became meteorologists because of this storm," FOX 5's Sue Palka said Wednesday night.
We were hit again in February 2010 with nearly 18 inches of snow during a blizzard that is commonly referred to as Snowmageddon.
The unforgettable Blizzard of '96 rounds out the top five.

2) February 12-14, 1899: 20.0 inches
3) February 18-19, 1979: 18.7 inches
4) February 5-6, 2010: 17.8 inches
5) January 7-9, 1996: 17.3 inches
6) February 10-11, 1983: 16.6 inches
7) December 18-19, 2009: 16.4 inches
8) February 16-18, 2003: 16.4 inches
9) February 15-16, 1958: 14.4 inches
10) February 7, 1936: 14.4 inches
