Here’s what to expect from Hurricane Dorian in DC, Maryland and Virginia on Friday

We're watching Hurricane Dorian closely on Friday as the storm is expected to bring strong winds and rain to parts of Maryland and Virginia's coastal areas.

Tropical Storm Warnings remain in effect for parts of Maryland's Eastern Shore, including Ocean City, and for areas of coastal Eastern Virginia, including Virginia Beach and Norfolk.

Winds associated with Dorian along the Virginia and Maryland coasts could be at their peak during the early-afternoon hours Friday. Virginia Beach could see peak winds of 55 mph and Ocean City could see peak winds as high as 35 mph with gusts as high as 50 mph. It will remain breezy through the evening in those coastal areas as Dorian moves away from shore.

Locally, the further east you go on Friday the better chance you have of seeing rain associated with Dorian. We could see a hit-or-miss shower in the D.C. metro area Friday but can probably expect more of a cloudy and breezy day with highs around 75 degrees. The storm is expected to move away from our region in time for the weekend. Both Saturday and Sunday look sunny with highs in the 80s.
