CHEVY CHASE, Md. - The heavy rain that came down in Maryland on Friday caused the National Weather Service to issue a Flash Flood Watch along with several warnings in the area.
In Montgomery County, a swift water rescue crew had to rescue a driver from a vehicle stuck at Beach Drive and East-West Highway in Chevy Chase Friday evening.
Two first responders were seen coming out to the car to provide a life vest for the male driver as they helped escort him to safe ground away from the high water.
The driver indicated to FOX 5's Matt Ackland that he was fine and not injured.
Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service battalion chief Matt Carrigan said this was one of two rescues on Beach Drive on Friday.
With the heavy downpour and flooded roads, authorities want to remind drivers to "turn around, don't drown."
"Don't drive through running water, standing water that you can't see on the roadway," said Carrigan. "Don't walk through it. It just can't be said enough."
