DC region to miss out on significant snowfall as winter blast expected to hit northeast

A significant snowfall will miss the D.C. region yet again as a storm system that is expected to bring heavy accumulations to the northeast will brush by our area leaving behind only flurries.

The hard to predict system left much doubt as we headed into the weekend. Some models showed snow arriving late Sunday into Monday morning. As the track shifted it became apparent that the system would not greatly impact the Mid-Atlantic area.

FOX 5's Mike Thomas tweeted an image showing a large 'snow-gap' across the Mid-Atlantic. He said some snow will likely fall in our area but it is unlikely to accumulate as temperatures will be too high and the precipitation that does fall will be too light.

Many areas to the far west and to the northeast are under Winter Weather Advisories and Winter Storm Warnings. The D.C. and Interstate 95 corridor will likely only see a spotty trace to an inch of snow. One to three inches of snow may be possible in the mountains to the west with slightly more far south and west of the metro area.

While the D.C. area is expected to miss out on this winter blast, the Northeast is bracing for its third nor'easter in less than two weeks. The storm that will miss our region is expected to make its way up the coast bringing snowfall to parts of Philadelphia and New York. Parts of Boston are expected to get up to a foot, while southern Maine could see almost 18 inches by Wednesday.
