Burst of winter weather brings snow, sleet and cold rain to DMV
WASHINGTON - A bout of winter weather swung through the DMV this weekend and areas northwest of D.C. got to see some early snow.
Areas like Frederick, Md. and Bluemont, Va., picked up a dusting to about an inch of snowfall. But the snow will not stick, as rain will move in over night and wash it away.
A winter weather warning is in effect until Monday morning for Garrett, western Allegany, western Mineral, Grant and Pendelton counties.
In those areas, the main concern is heavy mixed precipitation with snow, freezing rain and ice. Accumulations of up to three inches are expected for the mountains. Roads, bridges and overpasses could become hazardous.
A winter weather advisory is in effect for Central Blue Ridge, Northern Virginia Blue Ridge, including the counties of Washington, Shenandoah, Frederick, Page, Warren, Clarke, Berkeley and Jefferson.
Mixed precipitation with additional snow and sleet with up to an inch of accumulation. Roads, bridges, and overpasses will be slick and hazardous.
Next week will start off mild with showers on Monday and a rain ending before dawn on Tuesday. It will be a short break as rain is expected to return on Wednesday, continuing into Thursday.
